PODCAST | Fourth Week of Advent: “Always Be Ready”

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

On this podcast for the third Sunday and week of Advent, we continue our preparation to “be ready” for Christmas—the celebration of our transcendent God breaking into our own world in the fullness of time—by contemplating Jesus Christ as the true source of peace and joy.

“He shall take his place as shepherd by the strength of the Lord, by the majestic name of the Lord, his God; And they shall dwell securely, for now his greatness shall reach to the ends of the earth: he shall be peace” (Micah 5:3,4).

St. Paul reiterates not that Jesus is peaceful but that He is peace; Isaiah calls Him the Prince of Peace; and Jesus tells us: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you” (John 14:27).

We want to ask God’s help to penetrate these words so that we can “always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope” (1 Peter 3:15).

God wants everyone to be recipients of this description of Jesus. This great joy is for all people and it fills all people with hope.

We look to Mary’s reaction to go and serve Elizabeth at the angel’s announcement of her cousin being with child (Luke 1:39-45). Mary is instinctively driven by the desire to bring her Son to others. Elizabeth, therefore, becomes the first recipient of Mary’s work of evangelization and she is filled with joy.

How do you communicate this joy?

In these last days of Advent, focus on Jesus’s true presence in the manger of the ciborium of the tabernacle asking for the gift of conversion and petitioning Him to make His presence known in our souls and in our hearts.
