Do Not Be Anxious About Tomorrow | iPray with the Gospel
“Why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O men of little faith? … Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the day’s own trouble be sufficient for the day.
Matthew 6:24-34
If God looks after plants and birds and flowers… will He not care ‘MUCH MORE” about His children? He didn’t ask us not to worry just because there is plenty of everything for everyone, or because He is the Creator and has planned everything perfectly. He asked us to trust in His providence because He is our Father. That’s the only reason for us to shake off all our worries. God is my Father! I will have highs and lows, joys and sorrows, achievements and failures, but those peaks and valleys do not define what I am. Power, money, degrees, fame or anything I can get in this world are nothing in comparison to what I am already: a child of God!
And my Father God cares for me as if I were an only child, because I am, in a real sense, an only child. God has no other daughter or son that He loves the same as me. Good parents love all their children immensely, but differently. If I have seven brothers and sisters, that doesn’t mean that I get one-eighth of my parents’ affection. A mother’s or father’s love can’t be sliced up like a brownie.
One day in Calcutta, a man who had a sick daughter came to St Teresa. They couldn’t find the specific medicine which would cure the child. As they were speaking, a man came with a basket of medicine and right on top was the exact one the child needed. Mother Teresa said, “If it had been inside, I would not have seen it. If he had come before, I would not have seen it. But just at that time, out of the millions and millions of children in the world, God in his tenderness was concerned with this little child of the slums of Calcutta enough to send, just at that time, that amount of medicine to save that child”.
Mary, Mother of God and my Mother, help me to understand the deep meaning of these simple words: I AM A CHILD OF GOD.
