PODCAST | Becoming an Early Christian

[View Transcript]

“Look at the early Christians. What was their secret?”

In this meditation, Fr. Peter Armenio reminds us that St. Josemaria repeatedly looked to the early Christians as the prime role models for those of us striving to be contemplatives in the middle of the world today.

Fr. Peter helps us reflect on the witness of the early Christians by bringing us through the history of the Church to illustrate how God’s grace helps all Christians live their life to the full. And, he encourages us to ask God for more of what he refers to as “realistic optimism”—the joyful calling to be a saint—as an antidote to pessimism and discouragement.

PAUSE AND REFLECT:

  • The world changed when the early Christians lived charity, chastity and courage.  In what ways is the Holy Spirit molding me to be more like Christ in these three virtues?
  • How could I rely more on God for that ‘realistic optimism’ in my path to sanctity?
  • Who am I praying for to come closer to God? Have I given permission to the Holy Spirit to use me as an apostolic instrument for the sake of souls?
  • To whom can I share more about Opus Dei as a path to holiness in the middle of the world, particularly as we prepare for the Centennial?
