Book of the Month: 202520242023 | 2022 | 2021 | 2020 | 2019

May 2026

This month, we are reading the homily “The Great Unknown” from Christ is Passing By by St. Josemaria Escriva.

As we prepare for the Solemnity of Pentecost, St. Josemaria’s homily draws our attention to the Holy Spirit, often the most overlooked Person of the Trinity, and invites us to become more aware of his quiet but powerful presence in our lives.

He shows how the Holy Spirit works within our souls guiding us, sanctifying our daily efforts, and leading us toward holiness in the midst of ordinary life.

“For some, unfortunately, the Paraclete is the Great Stranger, the Great Unknown. He is merely a name that is mentioned, but not Someone, not one of the three persons in the one God, with whom we can talk and with whose life we can live. We have to deal with him simply and trustingly, as we are taught by the Church in its liturgy. Then we will come to know our Lord better, and at the same time, we will realize more fully the great favour that has been granted us when we became Christians” (Christ is Passing By, no. 134).

As you read along, we invite you to share your thoughts, questions, favorite quotes, etc., with us on Facebook and Instagram @stjosemariainst.
