New Website Launches About the History of Opus Dei
The Josemaría Escrivá Study Center (CEJE) at the University of Navarra and the Istituto Storico San Josemaría Escrivá (Rome) have launched a new website dedicated to the history of Opus Dei: historiadelopusdei.org. Available in Spanish and English, the site combines academic rigor, an outreach-oriented approach, and digital resources, with the aim of providing key insights to better understand the historical development of the Work within its various social, cultural, and ecclesial contexts. The project also benefits from the collaboration of the St. Josemaría Institute (Chicago).
The platform offers a progressive journey through the history of Opus Dei, combining short narrative texts with documentary materials and multimedia resources. It is a long-term project designed as part of the preparation for the centenary of the founding of Opus Dei (2028–2030). As the editorial team explains:
“We offer reliable and accessible content to help readers understand and contextualize the history of Opus Dei. This project was created with the ambition of reaching a global audience. Our goal is to progressively translate these materials into different languages and reach increasingly diverse audiences.”
The website is organized into sections that allow for a gradual and contextualized reading experience. A News section brings together current content, anniversaries, and new publications. In addition, a monthly series titled In a Few Lines presents a concise and chronological account of the history of the Work, revisiting key episodes and contexts in view of the upcoming centenary.
Another section is dedicated to Saint Josemaría Escrivá, exploring his life, message, and priesthood, while also addressing the figures of his successors. Meanwhile, Stories with a Name is a monthly series of micro-biographies that brings history to life through profiles of the first members of Opus Dei, highlighting a wide range of personal and professional paths.
The platform also includes a section featuring interactive and multimedia content, such as a timeline and an interactive map showing the presence of Opus Dei in different countries, as well as podcasts and audiobooks.
The website also provides access to the Josemaría Escrivá and Opus Dei Virtual Library, an open digital repository with more than 15,000 bibliographic records and 8,000 PDF documents. These include academic journal articles, book chapters, and publications by Josemaría Escrivá in several languages, all available for free consultation and download.
