“Teacher: your keenness to know and practice the b “Teacher: your keenness to know and practice the best method of helping your students to acquire earthly knowledge is undeniable. But don't forget that you must have the same keenness to know and practice the Christian spiritual life, which is the only method of helping them and you to be better.” -The Way, no. 344
St. Josemaria Escriva understood that the vocation of a teacher carries a responsibility that goes beyond the classroom. To teach is to help form another person and every person is made in the image and likeness of God and called to holiness.
The work of teaching can itself be sanctified. Preparation, study, correction, patience, encouragement, and the daily demands of the classroom can all become offerings to God when carried out with love.
St. Josemaria's reminder is simple but demanding: the more seriously we desire to help others become better, the more seriously we must strive for holiness ourselves.
Today, let us pray for teachers and educators, especially those entrusted with the formation of children and young people.
May God give them wisdom in their teaching, patience in their work, charity toward their students, and a deep love for Christ that shines through everything they do.
St. Josemaria Escriva, pray for us!
