“Be Ready!”: An Advent Devotional
In the season of Advent, as we prepare our hearts and homes for the Nativity of Our Lord, St. Josemaria Escriva reminds us that we must learn “to build a real and genuine interior life upon the deep foundations of the human virtues” because “human virtues constitute the foundation for the supernatural virtues” (Friends of God, no. 83, 74).
Available as a free digital download, “Be Ready!”: An Advent Devotional from the St. Josemaria Institute guides us on a deep reflection on the four cardinal virtues–prudence, justice, fortitude, and temperance–and asks us how we are living them in this season of our lives. In the season of waiting, we will learn how the cardinal virtues can teach us:
- To practice “vigilant listening” and be attentive to God’s promptings in our souls.
- To trust in God for: “You alone, my God, have always been my strength, my refuge and my support.”
- To free oneself “from many kinds of slavery and savoring instead, in the depths of one’s heart, to the fullness of God’s love.”
- To “be ready to give him more.”
“Be Ready!”: An Advent Devotional includes passages from the Nativity story and excerpts from St. Josemaria’s writings to help you reflect on one virtue each week; reflection questions to help you go deeper and to use for journaling; and a weekly podcast to help guide your time of prayer.
