A Spiritual Toolkit for Young Adults
The St. Josemaria Institute is pleased to share A Spiritual Toolkit for Young Adults with a selection of resources to inspire your daily life as a young Christian who desires to know and follow God’s will in today’s world.
“God is counting on you.”
St. Josemaria Escriva
(The Forge, no. 507)
But to do what, when, how, and why? As faithful Young Adults, this question can feel especially relevant as you’re confronted with both the thrill and the uncertainties of discerning your vocation and making major decisions that could impact your whole life.
As a priest, St. Josemaria Escriva was able to guide the spiritual growth of many young people as they sought and answered God’s calling in their lives. He helped them understand that the vocation of a Christian is not only about choosing one’s state in life (married or single), but that the vocation of every Christian is to be a child of God and to be a saint.
“You and I belong to Christ’s family, ‘for he himself has chosen us before the foundation of the world, to be saints, to be blameless in his sight, for love of him, having predestines us to be his adopted children through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will’ (Ephesians 1:4-5). We have been chosen gratuitously by Our Lord. His choice of us sets us a clear goal. Our goal is personal sanctity” (St. Josemaria Escriva; Friends of God, no. 2).
And, for this reason, God is counting on you! He is counting on you to seek him and invite him into your daily life. He is counting on you to desire his will in all things– in your study, work, friendships, family, personal goals, and in your challenges and in your achievements.

QUOTES FOR REFLECTION ON VOCATION BY ST. JOSEMARIA:
- “Why don’t you give yourself to God once and for all… really…, now?” (The Way, no. 902)
- “If you see your way clearly, follow it. Why don’t you shake off the cowardice that holds you back?” (The Way, no. 903)
- “Don’t doubt it: your vocation is the greatest grace God could have given you. Thank him for it.” (The Way, no. 913)
- “By calling you to be an apostle, our Lord has reminded you, so that you will never forget it, that you are a ‘son of God.'” (The Way, no. 919)
- “Each one of you must try to be an apostle of apostles.” (The Way, no. 920)
- “God is counting on you.” (The Forge, no. 507)
- “The Lord’s calling — vocation — always presents itself like this: ‘If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.’ Yes: a vocation demands self-denial, sacrifice. But how pleasant that sacrifice turns out to be — gaudium cum pace, joy and peace — if that self-giving is complete!” (Furrow, no. 8)
