To Be Loved by a Sacred Heart

That Christ has come to us with a heart made of flesh tells us a lot about how the Sacred Heart loves us, and about the kind of love we need. We are loved by any number of hearts during our earthly lives, but one alone among them we call Sacred.

In today's Gospel (Matthew 16:13–20), Jesus asks H In today's Gospel (Matthew 16:13–20), Jesus asks His disciples a question that He continues to ask each of us today: “Who do you say that I am?”

Peter responds in faith, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Because of this profession of faith, Jesus entrusts him with a mission to build His church.

St. Josemaria writes, “Your ordinary contact with God takes place where your fellow men, your yearnings, your work and your affections are. There you have your daily encounter with Christ. It is in the midst of the most material things of the earth that we must sanctify ourselves, serving God and all mankind” (Conversations, no. 113)

Like Peter, the Lord is asking us to renew our profession of faith everyday; not only with our words, but also with the witness of our lives.

In this new week ahead, how will you respond to Christ’s question: “Who do you say that I am?”
